Lighting the lives of 393 children, Sangke River Cambodia

SANGKE RIVER, Cambodia – where the children of Tray Primary & Secondary, experience school a little differently to some people. Their school is located along a floating village on the Sangke River in Cambodia. Whilst this may sound exciting, this is an area that experiences energy poverty. This means studying after dark can be challenging.

In July 2022, 393 SolarBuddy lights were delivered to the hands of the children at Tray Primary and Secondary school. These lights will allow students to continue learning and completing their school exercises at night, as well as significantly reducing the cost of energy for their parents, which was previously spent on electricity, candles and the charging of batteries.

Our work takes us to some of the most remote corners of the world, which is why we work with amazing NGO partners on the ground. This distribution could not have been possible without the support from our ongoing and valued distribution partner, Prek Toal Moving Ahead Organization. Over many years, we have worked collaboratively to deliver over 4000 lights to children and their families experiencing energy poverty in Prek Toal, Cambodia.

They are a non-profit organisation that shares the same values as SolarBuddy in giving children like these at Tray Primary and Secondary school a comfortable and equal life through reliable and safe energy.

Without partnerships like these, our distributions and work would not be possible.

Reducing energy poverty is a crucial part of solving climate change and lifting people out of energy poverty will reduce the negative health, educational, and economic outcomes.
