SolarBuddy – Illuminating Futures

Our Impact

Cambodia

Cambodia is a small nation with a big history. Situated in Southeast Asia bordering Thailand and Vietnam, Cambodia was once home to the mighty Khmer empire of Angkor, whose legendary temples, a touchstone of national identity, attract millions of visitors every year.

Approximately 430,000 children under the age of 15 live in extreme energy poverty.

Two-thirds of households that are connected to the grid experience frequent power shortages. Without access to safe and reliable lighting, education and healthcare remain an important challenge and a development priority.

Prek Toal Moving Ahead

Founded by Hoksan An, a local Prek Toal resident, the priority focus of this non-government organisation is the sustainable development of the Prek Toal Floating village and its surrounding areas.

In Prek Toal the houses and schools are built on tall stilts or on floating bamboo rafts. Residents have no tap water, natural gas connection or electricity. Families use paddle boats to navigate around their community, many fishing or selling fruit and souvenirs to make a living.
