Our Impact

Papua New Guinea

Papua New Guinea is one of the most beautiful and unexplored places on the planet.

Its coral coastlines are rich with aquatic life and its misty highlands form a wondrous barrier that until recently cut off much of the population from the outside world and each other.

Papua New Guinea gained independence from Australia in 1975, and as a young democracy is currently undergoing a significant economic and social transformation.

The extreme topography of the Papua New Guinean ranges and the subsequent isolation of its population has developed the most linguistically diverse country on the planet, with over 850 living languages.

PNG Gulf Association

Formed in 2011, this Brisbane-based not for profit was established by Mr Terry Karafa following his personal experience of lacking the necessary tools to facilitate medical requirements for his dying mother. Determined to ensure no-one else would go through what he did, the PNG Gulf Association was established to bring together the Gulf people living in Queensland to stand united and raise funds
to deliver projects to change and touch the lives of people in the Gulf Province of Papua New Guinea, with the provision of health centres and schools a priority.
