Over 1,100 students across two Pacific schools took part in SolarBuddy STEM education workshops, assembling JuniorBuddy lights that will soon reach children in remote communities. These student-built lights will provide thousands of additional study hours each year, helping their peers learn safely after dark.
In collaboration with Airbus, SolarBuddy’s Pacific Program events came to life at Nadi Airport School in Fiji and Paradise College in Papua New Guinea. Facilitated by Airbus volunteers and the SolarBuddy team, and with the generous support of Fiji Airways and Air Niugini – students explored renewable energy, developed practical STEM skills, and gained insight into aviation careers, inspiring the next generation.
This is the power of partnership.

At the core of our Pacific STEM education program is a simple belief: education should connect knowledge with purpose. By engaging students in hands-on learning, we’re equipping tomorrow’s change-makers with the skills and confidence to shape a more sustainable and equitable future – starting in their own communities and reaching far beyond.

STEM education comes full circle
Nowhere was this more evident than at Paradise College in Port Moresby. The event was enriched by Christopher Odorry, an engineer and proud Paradise College alumnus, who returned to his former school to share his own journey. His story showed how STEM can transform lives and how education can light the path to opportunity.
In a remarkable full-circle moment, Christopher is also leading the distribution of the student-assembled solar lights to children across Western Province – ensuring the gift of light is passed directly from student to student.
A heartfelt thank you to Airbus, Air Niugini, and Fiji Airways for their commitment to empowering young minds across the Pacific.
Through their support, students in Nadi and Port Moresby experienced STEM education in action – gaining skills, confidence, and brighter opportunities for the future.
